House Cleaning Checklist

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

House cleaning can be time consuming and frustrating if you approach it without a plan in place. If you create a house cleaning checklist and then follow it each week, you’ll find that being organized helps make the chores less of a burden.

Preparing a house cleaning checklist can serve several purposes. One is that you will have a reference guide as you work through your chores. Another good reason to have a house cleaning checklist is that it aids in dividing up the chores if every family member has other commitments.

If you are making a house cleaning checklist for yourself you’ll want to list the chores in the order in which you’ll complete them. You can begin the list with the chore you least like. This is a good idea because once you get the least appealing task out of the way the rest seem easy in comparison.

It’s also a good idea when you are preparing your house cleaning checklist to list dusting near the top of the list. The reason for this is because dusting sometimes creates residue on the floor. You won’t want to vacuum or sweep the floor only to discover you need to redo it once you’ve dusted.

Your house cleaning checklist doesn’t have to just apply to one or two days a week. Many people find it easier to keep up with their house cleaning responsibilities if they divide the chores into several days. Tackling one or two chores a day as opposed to several in one day can make the work seem less overwhelming.

There are also chores that don’t need to be done each week that you’ll want to include on your house cleaning checklist. Cleaning the oven, dusting behind your appliances, and washing the windows are all important tasks. These can be placed on your house cleaning checklist once a month. If you choose the same week each month it will become part of your normal routine.

You can get every family member to help with the house cleaning. Write up a house cleaning checklist that includes chores that each person can be responsible for. For a young child this could be picking up their own toys or feeding the dog. For an older child you might consider assigning nightly dish clean-up or vacuuming to them on the house cleaning checklist.

If you decide to do this you can also teach your child the value of hard work by offering them a weekly allowance for completion of their chores. They’ll feel good knowing they are earning money and you’ll be glad for the house cleaning help.

Cleaning Oriental Rugs

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

My living room has very nice hardwood floors, so I wanted to keep them out in the open because of their natural beauty and rustic charm. The room seemed bare, so my husband and I invested in an oriental rug to make the area warm and cohesive. The rug is absolutely beautiful and it suits the old world style I chose for the design in the living area.

The rug does not suit our toddler who seems to have a vendetta against the thing. Of course, I consulted the Internet about cleaning oriental rugs. This has just led to utter confusion and general fear. There are conflicting suggestions posed by a number of different sources. Some urge people to not take the matter in their own hands. They strongly recommend that cleaning oriental rugs should be left to professionals.

Other sources urge the rug owners to address the spill or soil immediately because the spot may become stained beyond help if you wait to take it to a professional. These sources suggest that the stain be treated with a paper towel and plain water immediately to prevent staining. This suggestion makes perfect sense, but I’m apprehensive about cleaning oriental rugs on my own if it leads to disaster. I would hate to take it to a professional just to find out that I ruined the rug by trying to save it.

Through my research on cleaning oriental rugs, I have come to the conclusion that when spills and spots arise, I will address them right away at home. I chose to do this out of shear laziness and profound cheapness. I figure that I will spend more cleaning oriental rugs than I will initially purchasing them. I understand that they are investments, but I highly doubt that they will pay off if I have them professionally cleaned too often.

There are certain rules and guidelines that I will use to address the inevitable toddler-spots on the floor. First, I will take a breath and run for plain, white paper towels. Cleaning oriental rugs with paper towels that have print will leave marks on the carpet. I will use cold water and mild soap and blot the area without scrubbing. Then the rug will be set out to dry and will not be put back into place until it is completely dry.

This does not seem realistic. Instead of cleaning oriental rugs on my own, I think that I will wind up rolling them up and taking them to a professional. After all, they only charge one to two dollars per square foot. I just have to make sure that I buy small area rugs.

Fireplace Remodeling

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

Just like a home, and furniture, and curtains, fireplaces can become outdated, worn and in major need of remodeling. Fireplace remodeling ensures that your fireplace is pleasing to the eyes and warm enough to suit your house and family.

But how exactly does one begin this process? Depending on how much you want to spend, you can opt to completely redo your fireplace, or simply repaint the bricks a fresher color. If your fireplace looks dark and unappealing, repainting the bricks and surrounding areas can liven it up. However, a complete fireplace remodeling is sometimes necessary, especially if you want your fireplace to look good for company and your friends.

It also can be relatively simple or complex. Would you like to completely tear down the fireplace and replace it with a new one? A professional mason skilled in fireplace remodeling could be of help, though this would clearly be the most expensive option. If your fireplace is damaged or drab looking in just a few areas, then would a full fireplace remodeling be necessary? Repairing just the worn areas might be a better idea than a complete disassembling. A professional is highly recommended for any fireplace remodeling or significant repairs.

For minor problems, some people choose to repair the fireplace by themselves. It can be fun, a learning experience, and yes, it’s much less expensive! If a little sprucing up in color and life is all the fireplace needs, then you can buy remodeling brick paints and improve the look on your own. The paint is of high quality and is practically indiscernible when painting over a natural brick. Doing this type of limited fireplace remodeling is a super way to save money.

This type of project has as much to do with room remodeling as it does with a new fireplace. Fireplaces have a very powerful effect on the overall brightness and spaciousness of a room. A fireplace is certainly not easy to change or camouflage, unlike a rug or a couch. An ugly fireplace by itself can distract from an otherwise perfectly presentable living room. That’s why fireplace remodeling is important to the overall look and design of a room. You should decorate the room to complement the fireplace, since it is probably the most expensive and noticeable item in the room.

Don’t worry it doesn’t have to be a big, expensive mess. If the option of tearing out the fireplace and replacing the material is an unpopular one, then consider repainting it. A professional mason is the best option if you want a complete fireplace remodeling; so the only mess on your hands would be a quick pick up and vacuum.

Whatever your choice, keeping your fireplace in tip top shape is important, not only to keep the fire burning and the bricks shiny, but also to keep the entire look of the room warm and accommodating.

Garage Floor Plans

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

I live in San Francisco, where the weather is always pretty mild. Although there is not that much street parking available in my neighborhood, I can usually find it without too much trouble given a little bit of time to look. Additionally, I can just park in my own driveway. So the upshot of all of this is that I really don’t need my garage for my car. That’s a good thing, because it’s recently become a repository for all my junk. But I’m sick of my pack rat life, and thinking of turning over a new leaf. That is why I’ve become so interested in garage floor plans lately.

You see, my garage is decrepit - nothing but a leaky shack. I’m not sure it will survive the next earthquake, and I have no interest in calling in an inspector to find out, so after I move all of my junk out of there and get rid of as much of it as is possible, I think that I will get some new garage floor plans and start over, building a brand new garage.

There are many types of garage floor plans, and I don’t think the one that I use will be that traditional. You see, I’m not really that interested in being able to get my car into my garage. What I want, really, is more of a shack or workshop, where I can keep my tools. But that is only the plan for half of it. I would also like to find garage floor plans which accommodate a weight table and some basic exercise equipment. That way, I will be able to indulge my passion for fitness at any hour of the day or night from the comfort of my own home. I’d like to have a garage floor coating to make it a little more bearable on the feet than that concrete. Better yet, I’ll lay down some rubber mats that I can use to take the shock off my feet when I work out in my garage.

It doesn’t need to be warm inside, but I’d like it to be warmer. Most of the garage floor plans I’ve seen don’t really take into account factors like insulation, so I might be on my own. To me, the best solution seems to be to build double walls into the garage floor plan, and fill them with some kind of thermal material. That will make my garage the perfect addition to my house.
