Air Conditioning System Facts

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

With summer on the way, my temperature has been rising just thinking about the heat waves. I know it is wasteful, and where I live we only get maybe a week or at most too of really intense heat all summer, but still, I think it might be time to get an air conditioning system. After years and years, sweating it out, or going to the movie theaters to stay at all cool, I feel like I really deserve an air conditioning system, and the fact that I am getting older also really contributes. The problem is that they can be so expensive.

After our window mounted air conditioning system conked out in the middle of the worst heatwave, we got an estimate on installing a new central air system. The prices that they show you online are already quite high, but what they do not tell you is the rest of the story. Not only do they have to install the air conditioning system, charging you for parts and labor, but they might have to completely overhaul your ventilation system. If, like me, you scarcely or never use your heater, chances are that it is not in that great a shape. Especially if you have a house built in one of those new developments that spring up over night with shoddy construction, you probably don’t even have properly sealed ducts. Before you get a new air conditioning system, or heating and cooling system, installed, you will probably have to pay for all of those new ducts to be professionally cleaned and sealed. And if the problem is bad enough, and there is enough dirt in the system, you may have to have them replaced and rehung altogether before you can get your air conditioning system.

I think that the best solution for me might just be to get one of the newer window-mounted air conditioning systems. They have become cheaper and cheaper, and they use less energy than ever before, as I have heard. It seems like a more economic solution all around, because I can just spend my time in that room when I want to be cool, without having to pay to run the air conditioning system to cool the whole house, which is a gigantic expense. I think that central air will have to wait at least another year at this point. I would rather spend my money on trips to the beach.

Home Improvement Facts

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

Right now my husband and I are up to our proverbial ears in home improvement chores. We don’t know which projects should take precedence which means that we have started a lot of projects. We have started a lot of projects. We have finished almost none. We knew that we were going to have a lot of home improvement projects when we first looked at the home. It is quite small and the previous two owners did not care for charming little house.

When we first moved in, I felt like I was at camp. I thought that we were in over our heads, but with a few ideas we came across on the many home improvement shows on television, we soon found ourselves quite comfortable. Being comfortable is not always a good thing. We were constantly working on the home during the first three months, but things have begun to taper off during the winter months. I am amazed by all the projects we did finish.

We had to paint the house. This was the first major home improvement project on our task. The house was a corpse-blue hue and it was literally crawling off of the wooden structure. Fortunately, we moved into our new home in August, so the weather was fine for painting. The major obstacle to the do-it-yourself project was that the house was originally painted with an oil-based paint. Then it was painted with vinyl paint, and again with another oil-based paint.

The home improvement experts at our local hardware store suggested that we either have a professional blast the horrifically deteriorating paint off of the house or we scrape the peeling paint off and use an oil-based paint to cover it. We chose the latter for our painting feat. I was just glad that we chose a small home. We scraped and painted around our work schedules and our baby’s schedule. Somehow, we completed the project.

I am a little disappointed in our first home improvement task. We did manage to scrape the old, flaking paint off of the home. We counted five colors ranging from the corpse-blue to fluorescent green to bright red on the flakes of paint. This was an extremely painstaking task that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Once we finished that, we found the actual painting to be quite pleasant. Oil-based paint is very easy to work with.

Oil-based paint is not easy to find. Here is where my disappointment lies: we had an extremely limited number of color choices because no one really uses oil-based paint anymore. We originally had a peeling, corpse-blue house. Now we have a neat, clean corpse-gray house. I wanted a pale yellow house. The next home improvement project will have nothing to do with painting the exterior of the house, but one day we will look into siding in shades of yellow for our charming little home.

Wrought Iron Entry Doors

There are few things that are as striking as wrought iron entry doors. It is ironic that few homes have this kind of element considering how very beautiful these items are. Wrought iron entry doors have a one-of-a-kind look that can’t be captured by any other material. They are truly wonderful products worthy of great homes.

When I think of wrought iron entry doors I think of security and beauty. These two associations are both credited to the material that makes up the door. Nothing stands the test of time like the durable metal and nothing offers the stunning beauty and craftsmanship than wrought iron entry doors.

The association to safety is a no-brainer. The material itself is sturdy and formidable. The feeling of security is bound to the wrought iron entry doors. They somehow remind me of guarded castles and royal dwellings. Security is a definite plus when it comes to these products.

When we think of castles and royal dwellings, images of majestic beauty come into mind as well. The wrought iron entry doors are closely associated with images of royalty and majestic charm. When I approach a home that has these impressive doors, I feel as if I am entering a king’s mansion.

There is good reason for the association between royalty and wrought iron entry doors. The workmanship of a quality set of entryway doors is impressive. The skill required to produce a sound product is immense and the artisans take great pride in their craft. You can find wrought iron entry way doors in a number of different styles but each one is made with the same intense craftsmanship.

You may be thinking that wrought iron entry doors are a little too Old World for your tastes. However, you may be surprised to discover that these items come in an array of different styles and designs ranging from Old World to contemporary. No matter which you choose you will still have all of the “new world” features that you expect from a modern product.

They say that you have only one chance to make a good first impression. Your home has only one chance to make a first impression as well. It’s important to make a grand statement to your guests. You can put time and effort into the little details but there is no better way to send that message than with wrought iron entry doors.

Wrought Iron Bakers Rack

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

Moving into your very first apartment is an exciting time that you will remember for the rest of your life. You will also most likely remember the very first piece of furniture that you bought during this exciting experience as well. Some items come as no surprise but others are real shockers. For example, the very first piece of furniture I bought for my ne place was a wrought iron bakers rack.

The wrought iron bakers rack was a must for me. I had no idea why at the time. The object jumped out at me when I was visiting a local department store. There was just something about the wrought iron baker’s rack that I really loved. I had to have it even though I didn’t have many other items that would have made more sense for me to purchase.

Of course, I didn’t make the purchase on the spot. I had to go back to the relatively empty apartment and ponder why I wanted the wrought iron bakers rack so badly. Was it because I love to cook? Not really. Was it because the kitchenette needed some furniture cluttering up the space? Not at all.

The wrought iron baker’s rack was a must because it is a beautiful item that I wanted to own. I guess that it represented where I wanted to be in the future. I pictured the item filled with baking necessities as well as a handful of wine bottles in the wine rack attached to the underside of the unit.

No matter what my reasons, I went back to the department store to make the purchase. The wrought iron bakers rack was on clearance and I was relieved to find that the item was still available when I returned. The price was right and I had the item delivered to my new place.

Of course, I didn’t bother to measure before buying. The wrought iron bakers rack was way too big for the small kitchenette and I wound up regretting the purchase right away. However, I soon began to feel better once I noticed my entertainment system sitting on the floor of my living room.

The wrought iron bakers rack was the perfect place to house my small television and stereo system. The item stayed in my living room in the little apartment while I stayed there and many people loved the unusual look and innovative way that I used the piece of furniture.

Now the item is in my new home. The wrought iron bakers rack suits my country style kitchen perfectly. In fact, I think that I really bought the rack for this house without even knowing it.

House Cleaning Checklist

Filed Under (Home) by admin on 11-10-2009

House cleaning can be time consuming and frustrating if you approach it without a plan in place. If you create a house cleaning checklist and then follow it each week, you’ll find that being organized helps make the chores less of a burden.

Preparing a house cleaning checklist can serve several purposes. One is that you will have a reference guide as you work through your chores. Another good reason to have a house cleaning checklist is that it aids in dividing up the chores if every family member has other commitments.

If you are making a house cleaning checklist for yourself you’ll want to list the chores in the order in which you’ll complete them. You can begin the list with the chore you least like. This is a good idea because once you get the least appealing task out of the way the rest seem easy in comparison.

It’s also a good idea when you are preparing your house cleaning checklist to list dusting near the top of the list. The reason for this is because dusting sometimes creates residue on the floor. You won’t want to vacuum or sweep the floor only to discover you need to redo it once you’ve dusted.

Your house cleaning checklist doesn’t have to just apply to one or two days a week. Many people find it easier to keep up with their house cleaning responsibilities if they divide the chores into several days. Tackling one or two chores a day as opposed to several in one day can make the work seem less overwhelming.

There are also chores that don’t need to be done each week that you’ll want to include on your house cleaning checklist. Cleaning the oven, dusting behind your appliances, and washing the windows are all important tasks. These can be placed on your house cleaning checklist once a month. If you choose the same week each month it will become part of your normal routine.

You can get every family member to help with the house cleaning. Write up a house cleaning checklist that includes chores that each person can be responsible for. For a young child this could be picking up their own toys or feeding the dog. For an older child you might consider assigning nightly dish clean-up or vacuuming to them on the house cleaning checklist.

If you decide to do this you can also teach your child the value of hard work by offering them a weekly allowance for completion of their chores. They’ll feel good knowing they are earning money and you’ll be glad for the house cleaning help.
