What You Should Know About Wine Gift Baskets

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

Wine gift baskets are a wonderful offering for any wine enthusiast. These gift baskets are extra special because they can be customized to the person’s tastes. Some people create wine gift baskets for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. These adult gifts are appreciated because they offer a relaxing time that can be shared with friends, a partner or alone. A wine gift basket is one of my favorite gifts to give and to receive.

One gift that stood out above most of the other gifts I received during my bridal shower was a special wine gift basket created by a friend of mine. She chose two wines that were her personal favorites, one red and one white. She included a decorative wine cork in the basket. She also provided my husband and me with lovely towels and two delicate wine glasses with our initials etched in the glass. In addition, she added scented candles as an afterthought.

My husband and I enjoyed the wine gift basket. We had a lovely candlelit evening and we relaxed with our wine and our beautiful glasses. We sipped on the wine while we sorted through our gifts and we reminisced over the thank-you cards that we completed during the evening. One of the most difficult tasks in writing thank-you notes for friends and relatives is remembering who gave which gift. We had no trouble remember our special friend who gave us the wine gift basket.

I still use the basket to hold the very towels she included in the gift. I think of her each and every time I look at the basket. I also think of her each and every time I take a sip of wine out of our monogrammed wine glasses. My husband will mention our friend when he sees the beautiful cork stopper that she included in the wine gift basket. No other gift stood out as well as our wine gift basket. I completely forgot who bought our toaster oven, but I know who took the time to create the thoughtful basket.

My husband and I make sure to create a unique wine gift basket for holidays and special occasions, especially weddings and bridal showers. We know that our friends think of us fondly when they use the special gift. They are each created with the person they are intended for in mind. This makes a wine gift basket an ideal gift for nearly every occasion, and one that will create memories for the giver and receiver.

Wine Accessories

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

If you’re trying to figure out what birthday present or Christmas present to buy someone and they happen to be a wine lover, then you’re in luck. Wines have done nothing but grow in popularity in the last fifteen years, and with the increased popularity have come a huge selection of wine accessories.

One of the biggest causes of wine’s new popularity is it’s prominence in today’s supermarkets. When wineries in new wine-producing areas like Australia and South Africa began to market their wines, they knew that they couldn’t compete with established wineries in Italy and France in the upscale wine shops. Instead of trying to edge out these well-established wineries in the established markets, the new wineries broke into the supermarkets, marketing quality, low-priced bottles of wine to the masses.

A good bottle of wine is always an appreciated gift to a wine-lover, but why not include a wine accessory with the gift as well? You can choose from a wide range of accessories to fit your budget and your friend or relative’s style without looking too far.

Wine lovers enjoy showing off their wines, so often one of the most appreciated wine accessories is a good wine bottle rack. There are lots of different racks to choose from, from free-standing wine tables and wine bars to tabletop racks to hanging wall racks, the best choice will depend on the gift-receiver’s taste and current wine rack. If he or she already has a full wine cellar consider getting a single-bottle stand to show off some of the cellar’s best bottles.

Since your wine-lover presumably enjoys drinking wine as well as storing it, another great wine accessory is a set of wine glasses. Though the standard clear bowl-and-stemmed wine glasses are still popular, other styles have been cropping up on the market in recent years. Stem-less wine tumblers have become popular for everyday use, while colored and etched wineglasses can be great for entertaining. Pay attention to the type of wineglass you’re buying as different glasses are designed to highlight the flavors and aromas of different types of wine; consider matching your wineglasses to the type of wine you’re giving.

Bottle stoppers are another type of wine accessory that are great for gift-giving. They’re great for saving a half-finished bottle of wine for a few more days, and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. You can even get some of them engraved for a personal touch, or make your own from antique drawer-pulls and some old corks.

Frying Pan

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

Every cook has their favorite equipment. For some it’s their collection of knives, while others can’t live without their blender. For an everyday cook who feeds a hungry family, quite often their favorite item is their frying pan.

Almost everyone is extremely conscious about what they are eating. With an increase in cancer and heart disease rates it’s vitally important to choose foods that are low in saturated fats. Mistakenly many people think that if you cook in a frying pan you have to add oil which in turn will create long term health problems. In fact, some people shy away from using the frying pan completely for this very reason.

That doesn’t have to be the case. It can actually be one of the healthiest ways to cook many things, including fish, beef and chicken. The key to low fat cooking in a frying pan is to use one that has a coating on it. Teflon is applied to the frying pan during the manufacturing process. Not only is it completely safe it also serves as a non-stick surface. This means that you can cook anything without it sticking to the surface of the pan.

Cleaning it is just as simple as using it to cook. Anything that is left in the pan can be wiped away with a damp cloth. The outer surface of the frying pan should be cleaned with a mild detergent. It’s really important not to use any type of abrasive on the cooking surface of the pan as that can lead to damage of the Teflon. Some types of frying pans are dishwasher safe and you should read the label carefully when you first purchase it.

If you are a vegetarian you are probably interested in cooking dishes that contain vegetables and perhaps tofu. These also cook up nicely in a frying pan. Without the extra added fat during the cooking process, your dish will be very healthy and will taste so fresh. That’s one of the complaints about vegetables that are cooked in heavy oil, such as zucchini sticks or French fries. The taste becomes so compromised that it’s difficult to recognize it. If you instead throw some small pieces of potato in your frying pan with a mixture of fresh, seasonal herbs, you have a treat that’s much tastier than a deep fried dish could ever be.

Don’t give up on the idea of cooking without fat. Your food will be tasty if you just add the right seasoning and use a good quality Teflon coated frying pan.

My first exposure to really good (useful) cake decorating supplies was when I was a kid and used to watch my grandmother baking and decorating. She would bake and cool a set of cakes, ice the layers and the cake in completion, then
