Frying Pan

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

Every cook has their favorite equipment. For some it’s their collection of knives, while others can’t live without their blender. For an everyday cook who feeds a hungry family, quite often their favorite item is their frying pan.

Almost everyone is extremely conscious about what they are eating. With an increase in cancer and heart disease rates it’s vitally important to choose foods that are low in saturated fats. Mistakenly many people think that if you cook in a frying pan you have to add oil which in turn will create long term health problems. In fact, some people shy away from using the frying pan completely for this very reason.

That doesn’t have to be the case. It can actually be one of the healthiest ways to cook many things, including fish, beef and chicken. The key to low fat cooking in a frying pan is to use one that has a coating on it. Teflon is applied to the frying pan during the manufacturing process. Not only is it completely safe it also serves as a non-stick surface. This means that you can cook anything without it sticking to the surface of the pan.

Cleaning it is just as simple as using it to cook. Anything that is left in the pan can be wiped away with a damp cloth. The outer surface of the frying pan should be cleaned with a mild detergent. It’s really important not to use any type of abrasive on the cooking surface of the pan as that can lead to damage of the Teflon. Some types of frying pans are dishwasher safe and you should read the label carefully when you first purchase it.

If you are a vegetarian you are probably interested in cooking dishes that contain vegetables and perhaps tofu. These also cook up nicely in a frying pan. Without the extra added fat during the cooking process, your dish will be very healthy and will taste so fresh. That’s one of the complaints about vegetables that are cooked in heavy oil, such as zucchini sticks or French fries. The taste becomes so compromised that it’s difficult to recognize it. If you instead throw some small pieces of potato in your frying pan with a mixture of fresh, seasonal herbs, you have a treat that’s much tastier than a deep fried dish could ever be.

Don’t give up on the idea of cooking without fat. Your food will be tasty if you just add the right seasoning and use a good quality Teflon coated frying pan.

My first exposure to really good (useful) cake decorating supplies was when I was a kid and used to watch my grandmother baking and decorating. She would bake and cool a set of cakes, ice the layers and the cake in completion, then

Bottled Water Service

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

I usually don’t pay much attention to the results of medical studies that proclaim something or other is bad for my health. Yes, I already know I should lay off the double cheeseburgers and extra large french fries for lunch. I don’t need a group of Harvard doctors to tell me that! But I have to admit that there are some warnings that I do heed, and that includes anything that has to do with drinking water. As soon as I discovered how many contaminants and chemicals could be present in the stuff that comes out of the tap, I decided to check out a bottled water service.

I used to think that only businesses could pay for monthly bottled water service. While that may have been true a decade ago, that’s definitely not the case today. More and more people are realizing just how important it is to have a convenient source of pure, refreshing water at home as well as at the office. At the same time, bottled water service providers are realizing that homeowners represent a rather large market, so they’ve tailored their packages to fit individual and family needs. As a result, I was able to sign up for home bottled water service that fit both my usage requirements and my budget.

If you’re thinking about getting bottled water service for your home or office, here are some things to look for. First of all, check out what’s included in the fees that you have to pay. Most of the time, you can explain your estimated usage and get a quote over the phone. However, you have to bear in mind that there’s a lot more to bottled water service than just the H2O. For instance, there’s also the matter of the cooler, cups, and maintenance. Before signing a contract, make sure you know what you’re paying for. Also, you should ask if there is any flexibility to the plans. If you know there are certain features you won’t use, ask if you can eliminate those from your plan for a discount.

A second thing you should look for is what’s in the fine print. Some bottled water services assess fees and penalties if your actual usage varies from the amount stated in your plan. In addition, there is likely a cancellation fee associated with opting out of the contract. If you simply want to try out the bottled water service for a while, then it’s best not to sign a long-term contract. The more you know about the plan right from the start, the less chance there will be of encountering problems later on.

Ever since I signed up for bottled water service at my home, I’ve noticed a distinct improvement in the taste of my coffee, my tea, and even my cooking. And of course I feel much better knowing that my water is as clean and pure as can be!

Cookies By Design

Filed Under (Food) by admin on 11-10-2009

It is spring time and that seems to mean party time. Along with parties comes gift giving. In the next two months we have several different parties to go to. To begin the month is mother’s day and that means two different celebrations, my mother and my husband’s mother. As they get older it is so difficult to buy for them because they have everything that they need. I was trying to come up with a new idea when one of my friends mentioned that she was going to order a bouquet for her mother from cookies by design. I asked he what that was and she could not belief that I had not heard of them before. Cookies by design have a variety of cookie bouquets and other goodies that they deliver anywhere for a wide variety of occasions.

I looked up cookies by design and found that they had a beautiful spring bouquet with tulips and daisies and other flower shaped cookies that were decorated in beautiful spring colors. I was in a hurry so I quickly ordered two bouquets for mother’s day and let cookies by design take care of the rest. Our mother’s loved their bouquets. During the mother’s day celebration my sister-in-law handed me an invitation to her son’s graduation party, that was going to be held in 3 weeks. I asked her if she needed help with the party. She said that she needed an idea for decorations that would be different than all his friends. I suggested contacting cookies by design. We slipped into the office area and got on the computer. Cookies by design had several bouquets with graduation themes. My nephew has been involved in various sports through his high school years and so we thought that we could use the concept of cookies by design to create different shaped cookies with sport themes.

My niece is going to have her first baby so we are planning a baby shower for her. Again cookies by design to the rescue! They have adorable bouquets perfect for baby showers. I have not even mentioned how great the cookies from cookies by design taste. At first you do not want to eat them because they are so beautiful, but once you have tasted the cookies you are ready to tear the bouquet apart. Cookies by design provides a great alternative to traditional center pieces and all of their gifts are a welcomed addition to any occasion. And the best part is that you can eat them when the party is over.
