Air Conditioning Systems

My husband and I bought a lake home in central Minnesota several years ago. We purchased the home during a very cool spring. The A-framed home did not have an air conditioning system; however there were two patio doors and several windows that faced the lake so we thought we would not need one. We were wrong. We moved into the house at the end of July of one of the hottest weeks on record. Not only was it warm in the house but the humidity from the air and lake had everything damp and musty smelling. The first night we spent in our new home I slept under the ceiling fan in the living room because we had no idea where our fans were. It was interesting sharing my space on the floor with our two cats that were trying to get cool also. We did not have all of our things unpacked before we were asking our new neighbors to recommend a dealer for an air conditioning system.

I think we could have dealt with the heat through the use of fans and opening windows, but the humidity was another story. We found that we were getting mold in the basement. Even our bread was molding if we did not put it in the refrigerator. We knew that an air conditioning system would help to regulate the humidity in the house as well as the temperature.

We have crank out windows and the patio doors, so we did not even consider a window air conditioning system. The A-frame house also made a wall air conditioning system impractical for us. We called a heating and cooling specialist to evaluate our home. He did a cost analysis for us comparing using a mini-duct system and the traditional central air conditioning system. He recommended a the central air conditioning system which utilized the existing duct work from our furnace. The main cooling unit for the air conditioning system was placed on the north side of our home on the outside, so the system did not take any additional space inside the house. We were told that the placement of the air conditioning unit on the north side would help keep the unit itself cooler so that it would not have to work as hard. The specialist emphasized that it is very important to clean and replace filters on a regular basis so that the unit will run efficiently. By doing this the air conditioning system will not use as much electricity and will save money on the monthly cooling bill.

We found that understanding our system well and learning how to regulate the temperature inside our home has allowed us to run our air conditioning system in a very economical way. We are also much more comfortable and enjoy our lake home more fully.

Cheap Text Books

One thing is for sure, when you attend college, you want cheap text books. Whether you head to the old community college or a four-year University, it can be expensive, and this is just paying for your classes, not to mention room and board. Text books can be that straw that breaks the camels back. If you haven’t been there yet, just wait, you will soon have a reality check when you hit the campus book store.

When I first started taking classes at a University, I hadn’t really considered the costs of text books. I figured 50 bucks, tops. Wow, was I naive. After my first encounter with the isles of the campus book store, I thought, where can I find cheap text books? The prices were absurd, but you have no choice but to buy the book, because you need it for the class. If you’re lucky, you will get there before all of the used copies are sold out. While this experience was rather uninspiring, I soon chose to search the Internet for cheap text books. Now, here’s a bit of advice, if you have your schedule and know what books you need, go ahead and find them used online. Sites like Amazon.com offer a huge variety of books that are used and new. Take advantage of this and save some bucks.

Here is a prime reason to find cheap text books for school; when you head back to the campus book store at the end of the quarter or semester, they will feed you a lot of crap about how your books aren’t in demand anymore. They now have a new version of that text. Even better yet, if they do want to buy them back, they will pay you virtually nothing, hence making a ridiculous profit. Say you paid one hundred dollars for a math book, they will glance up at you from their little price charts and say, “We can give you 25 for that.” What a joke! In addition, these new profits are all going back to the book store. None to the writer or publishing company. I noticed that certain professors refused to use any texts through the campus book store. It’s almost like they resented them. They instead, turned their business to the local underdog bookstores. You know the ones.

Basically it comes down to finances. Who can afford much in college? We have to be stingy with our cash. Therefore, always search for cheap text books online. It’s very likely you’ll find what you need and for a reasonable price.
