Baby Party Supplies

Filed Under (Family) by admin on 30-06-2006

My daughter just had her first birthday and of course, I went crazy buying a lot of baby party supplies at my local party store. I quickly spent way more than I had intended but everything was so cute that I couldn’t resist. When the lady at the checkout gave me my total, I almost said, “Never mind,” and walked out of the store. But I didn’t.

Instead, I sent my husband back to the store to return the baby party supplies that I really didn’t need. I kept some of the things that were absolutely necessary. She needed the pink “Fun to Be One” baseball cap and she couldn’t do without the pink “Fun to Be One” matching T-shirt. She did not need the four “Baby’s First Birthday Party” signs that I bought to put on the road. Everyone attending the birthday party had been to my home before, but I was so excited that the cute signs matched the paper tablecloth, that I had to add them to the baby part supplies.

My husband returned the paper tablecloth, too. I found a sturdy, plastic one at our local discount dollar store at a fraction of the price. He also returned other baby party supplies to the store, like the paper centerpiece that would have lasted about ten seconds on the table. The paper plates were returned as well. I spent nearly twenty dollars on cute little plates, but I had to, they matched the road signs that we didn’t need and they matched the paper table cloth that was way overpriced.

After returning the unnecessary baby party supplies, my husband returned home with seventy dollars. I went to our local discount dollar store and found comparable items for a fraction of the cost. We used the money we saved on the baby party supplies on an actual gift for the baby, which is really more important than matching the centerpiece to the tablecloth. I did keep the thank-you cards for my guests because they are important and hopefully, they will be kept to remember the special day.

The paper plates from the dollar store did not match the tablecloth. The centerpiece was missing, but it wasn’t missed by anyone. No one mentioned that we didn’t have signs pointing them in the right direction. My daughter had a wonderful first birthday and we had plenty baby party supplies. In fact, all we really needed was the baby.

Birth Methods

A woman who is pregnant can prepare for going through labor in many ways. The best thing she can do for herself is to get educated on what to expect when labor starts. There are many ways a woman can learn about what to expect. There are a multitude of books and websites dedicated to pregnancy and parenting. The library, a bookstore, or a search engine are all good places to start. Many hospitals offer free or very inexpensive classes on various birth philosophies and breastfeeding techniques. It is a good idea to learn all one can before the time comes, to help relax and understand what is happening to the body when labor sets in. It is also a good idea for the birth partner to attend these classes, so he or she can learn how to be the best support to the mother-to-be.

There are many birth philosophies that a woman can learn about. One is called Lamaze. This is a breathing technique that helps a woman focus on breathing through the pain of labor contractions, and attaining a meditative state by doing so, in order to cope with the contractions as they become intense. It is very popular. The birth partner helps by being a coach during labor. This method may be used instead of pain medications, for those interested in a medicine-free birth, or in conjunction with any one of the available pain-reducing drugs during labor.

Another birth method is called the Bradley Method. This method involves using positions and relaxation techniques to help the body have productive contractions, and help the woman to cope with the pain. Relaxation is commonly understood as an effective way to manage the pain of labor. The Bradley method teaches ways for the birth partner to serve as a coach and help the woman relax through each contraction and allow it to help the labor progress. This method is most commonly used by women who wish to have a medication-free birth, but may also be used by women who want to get as far into labor as possible before trying any pain medication.

Besides birth methods, there are also professionals who are available to help women and their partners with the process of labor. These professional labor coaches are called doulas. A doula is not a nurse or midwife, but rather a person who is trained in supporting a woman through labor, and helping her partner to support her too. Husbands often feel helpless when their wives are in labor, as they watch her going through pain, they don’t know how to help. A doula can help support both partners by understanding the woman’s experience, and knowing effective ways to help.

Women today have many options when it comes to birth, and have the opportunity to educate themselves in many ways so they are as prepared as possible to have a positive birth experience, with few complications.

Caribbean Information

We were originally planning last summers vacation to somewhere moderate and temperate. Living in Chicago, where the only time it’s not cold is when it’s boiling hot, we thought we’d go to somewhere like San Francisco, where it never gets hotter than warm or colder than cool. But we ditched those plans after coming across a website showing Caribbean information, and offering vacation packages to St. Lucia, Puerto Rico, and a host of other destinations. Boy were we hooked when we saw the pictures of the turquoise oceans and gorgeous waterfalls.

After looking through all the Caribbean information, we set off for St. Lucia on the 25th of June, taking advantage of a great vacation package. The hotel was fairly inexpensive and right on the beach, and the airfare was definitely reasonable considering the tropical paradise which was or destination. We picked up a Caribbean information tourbook, and spent weeks anxiously thumbing through it, excitedly planning all of the adventures which we would have.

When we got there, however, we threw the Caribbean information to the wind. We were instantly overwhelmed by the beauty of the place, and set off to explore ourselves, rather than rely on the information on Caribbean vacations gleaned from some booklet for tourists. The thrilling heat of the air, the clear skies with little white clouds, the gentle oceans - we had definitely found our slice of heaven.

However, as tourists from a rich country, we definitely should have been more aware of at least some of the Caribbean information which we had read. People see American tourists and they see dollar signs. The Caribbean information tour book told us how much to pay for taxis, food, souvenirs, and other services, but we were too na

Cat Toys

Cats are pretty moody animals. If you want a companion that you can depend on to always be in a playful mood, get a dog. Cat owners are moody sort themselves, and they own moody pets. Cats do not always want to play with you, and sometimes they don’t want anything to do with you. Nonetheless, when they are in the mood for fun and games they can be extremely entertaining companions. They will chase streamers around, getting tangled in balls of yarn, and even play tug-of-war on occasion. Of course, having the right cat toys helps.

One of the first things that you should realize is that almost anything can be a cat toy. The key is to understand the cats psychology. Cats are hunters, and stealthy ones at that. They love to be able to sneak up on something. As such, one of the most entertaining cat toys is a simple string.

If it has something shiny and the end of it, or bobs up and down in an interesting and animated manner, so much the better. You can, however, play this game with nothing but a ribbon. You hang in front of the cat as it crouches is in the corner and tries to be inconspicuous. It will stalk the string, waiting for the right moment to pounce. When it does, you can yank the string up and out of the cat’s reached just in the nick of time. It helps if you let the cat catch the cat toys every once in a while. It keeps it entertained and lets it feel that it is doing well.

Of course, there are also cat toys that cats can play with on their own. Many of the most popular pet gifts are basically variations of squeaky toys. Squeaky mice are especially popular cat toys. Personally, I don’t think cats care whether a rubber squeaky toy is a mouse, a rat, or a lion. All that matters is that it is a small critter that squeaks when the cat pounces on it.

Cat toys can actually provide a useful function as well as being fun. When you have to take care of your cat, it can be nice to keep distracted. With the right cat grooming supplies, you can clean out old matted fur very quickly. Nonetheless, if the cat has something to mess with and chew on while you are grooming it, it makes things easier for both of you.
