Baby Gift Basket Guide

Baby Gift Baskets

Good friends of ours just had their first baby - an adorable baby girl named Madison Lee. We have been talking about what to buy them as a gift. We have had so many ideas, but finally settled on a baby gift basket.

Baby gift baskets can be purchases pre-assembled. However, we have decided to collect and assemble our gift basket on our own. We will purchase a large basket with a sturdy handle at a local craft shop along with cellophane (preferably in pink or printed with a baby motif). As well, we will pick up some ribbons, tissue paper, possibly a pre-inflated foil balloon with congratulations message, and of course an appropriate card.

Then we will begin gathering items to put into our baby gift basket. Some items we will look for are good quality baby shoes with decent support, a couple of choices from the Baby Einstein line of products and a fashionable hat, mitts and scarf set. Then we will choose more generic items to fill up our baby gift basket. These choices will likely include liquid baby powder (real baby powder can affect baby’s breathing), a baby-safe stuffed toy, something to help mommy relax (bath salts or similar aromatherapy products), an assortment of baby care products and last but not least, a gift certificate for a local restaurant so that both parents can enjoy an evening away from the hectic demands of parenthood.

Baby gift baskets are an especially good choice for people living a great distance away (like us). As long as items are non-breakable, these gift baskets can be safely shipped and are a great way to send best wishes and practical gifts to new parents and babies.

In the past, when we had our children, we were fortunate to receive several baby gift baskets. It’s a lot of fun to get and give an assortment of gifts and it’s a good way to make sure to include everyone in the family. It’s especially good to remember any other little brothers or sisters in the family, who may feel somewhat left out by all the fuss over the new baby. Including a special gift or two for the other children is a wonderful gesture of care and makes things go that much more smoothly while welcoming the new little one to the family. Good choices to include in your baby gift basket, for the other children will likely include toys and games that they are able to operate on their own. So it’s very important to be conscious of their ages, since buying a toy or game beyond their age range will require adult assistance and likely result in disappointment for the children, rather than the intended distraction.

Indeed, buying or assembling a baby gift basket is a great way to personalize your gift. The extra time it may take to make your gift just right will definitely be appreciated by the new parents and the practicality of the gift will make their job that much easier.

Electric Blanket Facts

I am shopping around for a good electric blanket this year. We have oil heat in our home and the cost of fuel is really high this season. Our family is keeping the heat pretty low and this is not really a problem during the day. We have a wood burner in the basement that helps keep the chill off, but the fire goes out in the wee hours of the morning leaving us shivering.

We find ourselves waking up in the middle of the night because of the chill. The problem is especially evident in our bedroom because it is in an older part of the home. Our daughter’s nursery is cozy and warm all night long, but my husband and I literally freeze. An electric blanket seems to be the perfect solution to our winter woes.

This idea does not come without some thought about how different my husband and I are. I tend to get the chills while he is peeling clothes off. I sit under a couple of throws on the couch while he is sitting in shorts and a t-shirt. If we bought an electric blanket, it would have to have different temperatures for each side.

When it comes to sleeping comfort, my husband and I actually prefer the temperature to be a little lower. Neither of us can sleep when it is too warm but sometimes regular bedding just is not enough to keep us comfortable at night. The slightly colder temperatures are not as problematic during the day because no one is usually home and if we are, we’re usually moving around quite a bit.

The only time the fuel-saving method of keeping the thermostat at a relatively low temperature really interferes with our comfort is when we are trying to get to sleep. An electric blanket with an automatic shut-off would be a welcome addition to our bedding as well. Many times a warming blanket can be too warm and this can disrupt our sleep as well. As a general rule, we like the temperature to be a little lower at night.

The ideal electric blanket gives off mild heat that can be adjusted to each person’s selected temperature preference. The blanket should also have an automatic shut-off to keep us from waking up because we are too warm in the middle of the night. This may be a lot to ask from a little throw, but it would be a welcomed addition to our collection of throws.

Area Carpets Facts

Area carpets can enhance the beauty of nearly any room. Many people love hardwood floor but they hate the echoing noise and bareness associated with hardwood flooring. Adding area carpets to these types of floors can really warm up a room while cutting down on empty echoes throughout the space.

One of the reasons that people choose to install hardwood flooring is because it is a natural material. This natural material is wonderful for anyone who suffers from allergies because dirt and dust do not become imbedded into the floors as it does with wall-to-wall carpeting. Most wall-to-wall carpets are made of synthetic fibers, too.

It is reasonable to assume that area carpets are created out of synthetic materials as well and many of them are. However, an environmentally-conscious family may want to look into buying natural area carpets made out of non-synthetic material. Natural area carpets are available in a wide range of colors and styles and they are sure to suit just about any d

Photo Editing Software

Following right along the huge popularity of digital cameras came a host of new photo editing software programs. Though photo editing software actually predates most modern digital photography; photos would be scanned into a computer to be digitally manipulated, it was digital photography that really allowed photo editing software to take off.

The best thing about photo editing software is that, combined with digital photography, it allows the consumer to do at home what used to be impossible without a full darkroom or professional photography studio. Everybody can now digitally remaster their photos at home to make them much better than they were to begin with.

One of the most useful features of almost all photo editing software is that the software allows you to quickly and easily crop and resize your photos. Remember the feeling of getting a roll of 35mm photos back from the lab and finding that your thumb screwed up a great photo of the Leaning Tower of Pisa or Notre Dame? Now, with a few clicks you can crop out your thumb, leaving an excellent, thumb-less photo.

Another handy feature of nearly all photo editing software suites is that they allow you to alter the brightness and contrast of your photo with a few clicks of your mouse. Aside from poor composition, which can usually be corrected with a little cropping, one of the most common causes of bad photos is that they’re either too light or too dark. By adjusting the contrast and brightness sliders in your photo editing software you can’t save every photo, but you can save a lot of them and, what’s even better, you can make your already good photos great.

Photo editing software varies from here quite a bit, depending on the manufacturer. Some photo editing software, especially software which comes bundled with digital cameras, usually only has features for cropping, resizing, and adjusting brightness and contrast. Other, more advanced programs like Adobe Photoshop will allow you to alter the brightness and contrast of each color in the photo relative to the rest of the colors, to work in adjustment levels, and to add other visual filters to your photo. You can even blend photos together or take a person from one photo and drop him or her into another (helpful if your uncle keeps missing the family reunions). Regardless of what software you use, all photo editing software can help you make your photos a lot better.

Build A Fireplace Mantel

Filed Under (Info) by admin on 30-01-2006

Many older homes boast beautiful fireplaces that are as appealing to the eye as they are functional. With modern advances in furnace heating many builders saw no use for the structures in the home. The furnace did the heating in these homes. However, many homeowners want to add this feature to their family rooms and living rooms. You don’t need to have a working fireplace to build a fireplace mantel in your home.

The fireplace itself is simply a hole in the wall. The mantle is a decorative element that is added for eye appeal. This popular framing element often becomes the focal point of the room. Many homeowners build a fireplace mantel for decorative purposes alone.

This may not make sense to an older generation that perceives the unit as a functional piece of architecture. However, the primary focal point of the architecture is not the place where the fire is actually set. That is just an empty space until you add wood and flames. The visual bulk of a fireplace is decorative in nature.

For this reason, many homeowners choose to build a fireplace mantel whether or not they actually have a fireplace. This trend in many newer homes has become almost mainstay. There are a few innovative additions to the decorative feature that can provide old-fashioned style or sleek, modern sophistication.

Some homeowners simply put candles in the decorative fireplace unit. The glow of the candles is reminiscent of the flames of a traditional fire but they do not require a flue. This attractive approach is often used when the homeowners build a fireplace mantle and when the fireplace is an actual working unit.

On rare occasions, people will build a fireplace mantel that houses a waterfall. Burning candles that glow through the stream of water can be found behind the waterfall. This magnificent indoor water feature was highlighted on Home and Garden Television. The brilliant combination of fire and water is relaxing and charming.

You may want to build a fireplace mantle for your own home. There are a couple of options to consider. There are pre-made units ready to be installed but if you are handy with tools you can save some money by choosing to build a fireplace mantel from scratch.

Whether you choose to install a pre-made mantel or whether you choose to build a fireplace mantel on your own, you have made the first step to creating a warm, welcoming environment in your home.
